Welcome to our first Meet a Mom post for the Lakeway Moms Network! Here, you will meet local moms in the west Austin area who are working to better the city, whether through entrepreneurship, non-profits, or lots of motherly love!
What is your name and how would you describe your parenting style?
My name is Kylie Felder and I consider myself a crunchy mama, but our family is also obsessed with Whataburger. You’ll find essential oils and Pop-Tarts in our pantry. Basically, we like to live a healthy, yet enjoyable life.
How many children do you have and what are their ages?
My husband, Chris, and I have 3 children together. Two boys, ages 5 and 3, and a girl, 5 months old. Our last baby was a home birth after having two previous medicated hospital births, so definitely a completely different experience this time around!
How long have you lived in west Austin and what made you decide to live here?
We have lived in west Austin on and off for the last few years. Before this, I was a San Antonio area native. I met my husband in college at UTSA. He was born and raised in Austin, so he has family in the area. We love the area because of everything it provides for young families like ours.
What’s your favorite family activity in the area?
Our family often spends our time out and about at Bee Cave City Park. We love the walking trails and the playgrounds!
Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop in west Austin?
My husband and I are obsessed with Simply Pho located near the Hill Country Galleria. We also love Tony C’s, which makes shopping at the Galleria very convenient!
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
It doesn’t come as a surprise to some that I used to play basketball, but many people are shocked to learn I was a pretty good shot put and discus thrower!
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
Honestly my husband has always been my number one supporter through everything. He was even supportive enough to help me have a baby at home!
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I previously ran the San Antonio Moms Network, but after moving, I wanted to provide the same great resources for the Lakeway and surrounding areas. Before that, I owned a small gym in my hometown, but now run an online health business to help moms and kids make healthier choices. My husband owns CapTex Insurance Group based in Lakeway as well. We are proud entrepreneurs!
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Lakeway has been such a great area to raise our family. We have discovered amazing extracurriculars, incredible people, and delicious restaurants. Without meeting those I have here, I wouldn’t have discovered independence and life away from my small town outside of San Antonio. My family is thriving being in such a beautiful and friendly community. My husband is excited to spread the word of CapTex Insurance Group, my kids are happy to be close to tons of kids their age and I am excited to be able to provide the Lakeway Moms Network for mamas here!
